UPDATE 3: Wastewater Treatment Plants Workaround in Progress

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

September 6, 2017 Update:

RESIDENTS IN IMPACTED AREAS ARE ASKED TO PLEASE CONTINUE LIMITING USE OF WASTEWATER UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

The City of Houston's West District and Turkey Creek Wastewater Treatment Plants remain flooded as of Wednesday, September 6, at 12:30 p.m.  Please see the pictures below.  The city of Houston is working to try to restore the wastewater treatment plants as quickly as possible.

Today, Mayor Turner announced that the city had hired AECOM to lay approximately four miles of 12" sewer pipe as a temporary workaround. This workaround should be operational by Friday and will give the systems 600,000 extra gallons of shared capacity.  This will not solve the problem.completely, and even after Friday the city will continuing asking residents in the impacted area to continue limiting their use of wastewater.

Houston water is safe to drink.  The City of Houston's drinking water remains SAFE; this includes the tap water that comes out of the faucet.

Wastewater is water that goes down the drain and into the sanitary sewer system. In homes this includes water from sinks, showers, bathtubs, toilets, washing machines and dishwashers.

The city of Houston is asking the community in the impacted areas to please help conserve wastewater to avoid sanitary sewer backups. A few ways to help conserve wastewater include minimizing laundry use, taking shorter showers, not running the dishwasher, and flushing the toilet a little less.

Residents in the purple or beige shaded impacted areas shown below are asked to please help Houston Water by limiting their use of water for showers, baths, laundry, dishes or toilets until further notice.  This includes portions of District G in the following zip codes: 77077, 77079, 77024 and a small portion of 77042.

This is a request to LIMIT use of Wastewater.  It is NOT an order.  If you have been mucking out your house all day, we understand you may need to take a quick shower. We understand your need to flush the toilet.
